Born into royalty and tragically orphaned at a young age, Princess Jocasta was raised within the opulent but isolating walls of the palace. As the heir to the throne, she lived a life of perceived luxury under the guardianship of her uncle, the regent Tiberius. Shielded from the harsh realities beyond the palace, Jocasta grew up believing her city was a place of universal joy and happiness, completely unaware of the common afflictions that were a part of life for most Maheekanu people, and the even more dire conditions the Mahru (monsters) were forced to endure. 

The Gilded Cage

The Regent, Tiberius, deliberately maintained Jocasta’s isolation, keeping her blind to the true extent of the suffering, deep-rooted prejudice, and systematic cruelty the Mahru experienced daily, often at the hands of Tiberius’s own brutal foot-soldiers, the Zumari. All Jocasta knew was that the real dangers lurked in the world outside the palace walls – specifically, within the menacing jungles of Monsterwood, the very place she was told her parents had lost their lives many years ago. This carefully constructed ignorance, however, was not destined to last.

A Spirit of Defiance

Jocasta possesses a unique and compelling blend of gentle femininity and unyielding resilience, of inherent skill and touching vulnerability. She is a complex, relatable individual, embodying a powerful spirit of survival and fierce determination. Refusing to be defined or forever confined by her circumstances, Jocasta secretly makes her own plans: to escape the suffocating insulation of her castle-life, to brave the journey to Monsterwood, and there, to discover what truly happened to her parents and boldly claim her birthright.

The Future Queen’s Resolve

Thrust into a world far harsher and more complex than she ever imagined, Jocasta reveals an incredible capacity to adapt and persevere, even when situations seem utterly hopeless. She finds herself grappling with profound personal struggles, the intricacies of new and challenging relationships, and the heavy moral dilemmas that divide her people – both the Maheekanu and the Mahru.
